How to solve a word problem:
To solve this problem you have to divide the total length of the tube by the number of pieces you want. Since the landscaper is cutting the tube into all equal lengths the problem becomes a simple division. For example, if the landscaper has a tube 306 feet long and cuts it into 17 equal pieces, the length of each piece will be 306 feet / 17 pieces.
Putting this into an equation you get
306 Feet / 18 Pieces = 17 Feet / Piece
The each piece is 17 Feet long.
